Steelers look like geniuses on T.J. Watt deal after Micah Parsons’ shocking demand

Things just went from bad to downright ugly in a matter of hours for the Dallas Cowboys. On Friday morning, Dianni Russini of The Athletic reported that Micah Parsons's relationship with the Cowboys had 'deteriorated'. Now the drama has reached a breaking point... and Pittsburgh Steelers fans can't help but sit back and laugh.

Steelers look like geniuses on T.J. Watt deal after Micah Parsons' shocking demand

By Friday afternoon, Parsons had officially requested a trade from the Dallas Cowboys.

"Yes I wanted to be here. I did everything I could to show that I wanted to be a Cowboy and wear the star on my helmet," Parsons wrote in a social media post. "I wanted to play in front of the best fans in sports and make this Americas team once again. The team my pops and I grew up cheering for way up in Harrisburg, PA."

This is the last thing Cowboy fans wanted to hear. And it gets worse.

"Unfortunately I no longer want to be here," Parsons continued. "I no longer want to be held to close door negotiations without my agent present. I no longer want shots taken at me for getting injured while laying it on the line for the organization our fans and my teammates. I no longer want narratives created and spread to the media about me."

Parsons wasn't finished.

"Up to today the team has not had a single conversation with my agent about a contract," Parsons concluded. "Not one demand has been made by my agent about money years or anything else. Still I stayed quiet but again after repeated shots at myself and all the narratives I have made a tough decision I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys. My trade request has been submitted to Stephen Jones personally."

This spiraled out of control quickly, and the Pittsburgh Steelers are left looking like geniuses after the T.J. Watt deal.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are perfectly justified in T.J. Watt's extension after Cowboys' Micah Parsons fiasco

If we didn't already have justification that the Steelers made the right move inking T.J. Watt to a contract extension before training camp, we do now. Though Watt will turn 31 years old in October and is coming off a season in which he went silent down the stretch, he's still a premier pass rusher and one of the best defenders in the league.

Parsons, meanwhile, has even more incentive to break the bank. The 26-year-old is coming off an outstanding season despite missing time with a high ankle sprain. When healthy and on the field, Parsons is one of the most lethal pass rushers in the game.

Unfortunately for Cowboys fans, Jerry and Stephen Jones seemed to have botched things so badly that Parsons no longer wants to play for 'America's Team'.

This could have been the case for the Pittsburgh Steelers with Watt. Had Omar Khan gone behind the back of Watt's agent or ignored the calls to talk about an extension, the Steelers could have found themselves in a similar situation.

Now the Cowboys will be scrambling to pick up the pieces after Parsons' shocking trade request. This just got ugly. Thank goodness the Steelers already got Watt's contract extension taken care of.
