Steelers Make It Official And Sign First-Round Pick Troy Fautanu

The Pittsburgh Steelers had one of the best drafts across the league, and have been productive in signing their rookies to their first NFL contracts. On Monday, Pittsburgh officially signed their first-round pick, Troy Fautanu, who fell to them with the 20th overall selection. Fautanu marks the second tackle taken in the first round in consecutive years for Pittsburgh, along with Broderick Jones.

Ahead of the 2023 season, there was slight drama surrounding the Steelers and signing their rookies. Joey Porter Jr. didn't sign until after training camp had already begun, so it's good to see the organization taking care of signing their rookies early on in the summer. Adam Schefter was the first to break the news of Fautanu signing.

Fautanu is a part of the Steelers effort to improve their offensive line, which has been going on over the last several seasons. He joins Jones, and his fellow rookie Zach Frazier as young players that are expected to start at some point during the 2024 season. It's unclear whether Fautanu will be playing left or right tackle, but he has taken reps at both positions so far.

Steelers Have Just One Rookie Left To Sign

Pittsburgh has been proactive in signing their rookie class. The only player yet to sign is Frazier, who they selected in the second round and should be the team's starting center. He will likely sign soon, as rookies don't have much say on their initial contract in the league.

Adding guys like Fautanu and Frazier to the team is a step in the right direction for Pittsburgh, and will keep their quarterbacks well protected going forward.
