San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has officially requested a trade, per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.
Aiyuk is currently seeking a contract extension as he enters the final year of his current deal, and the 49ers have not met his asking price. According to Garafolo, the 49ers haven’t engaged in contract negotiations with Aiyuk since May.
The Steelers were reportedly in talks with the 49ers about trading for Aiyuk during the NFL Draft, but those conversations “fell apart,” according to former NFL general manager Mike Lombardi.
Acquiring Aiyuk to put alongside George Pickens would instantly give the Steelers one of the most dangerous receiving duos in the NFL. In terms of the money side of things, they have more than enough money to give him a $30 million per year deal going forward. Pittsburgh is projected to have approximately $89.6 million in cap space in 2025, per Spotrac, which is the third-most in the NFL.
