Steelers Re-Sign Special Teams Ace Ben Skowronek To New Deal In Free Agency

The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to attack the wide receiving group as the 2025 NFL offseason is underway. After trading for star wideout DK Metcalf  and also re-signing Scotty Miller, General Manager Omar Khan and the Steelers decided to bring back prolific special teams play-maker Ben Skowronek for 2025. Skowronek entered the 2024 season on a one-year deal with the Steelers and his tenure with the Steel City continues.

Although Skowronek only caught five passes with the offense last season, his big-play ability as a gunner with Danny Smith's punting unit was enough for the Steelers to bring him back. Skowronek's ability to make big plays with such little opportunities given made him a fan favorite in Pittsburgh. On Thursday, the NFL announced Skowronek's return with the Black and Gold.

After three new deals were reached with wideouts, the current status of the group includes, Metcalf, George Pickens , Calvin Austin III, Roman Wilson, Miller, and Skowronek as the likely favorites to make the initial 53-man roster. The Steelers could go even further by acquiring another receiver on the market or select one in the early rounds of the upcoming NFL Draft in April.

Even the few times Skowronek was involved or targeted in the offense, he would produce. Skowronek turns only 28 years old in the summer of 2025, and he could end up being similar to Miles Killebrew, who became one of the franchise's most pivotal players on special teams.

Steelers Continue To Add To Wide Receiver And Offensive Unit

Although the Steelers will now be without Najee Harris, Khan and the Steelers continue to stay aggressive in adding talent to the offense. With the new addition of Metcalf, the Steelers have a chance to add more talent to the offense at wideout and running back. Both positions are stacked in talent for the draft, and other quality options remain in free agency. The Steelers, who are still in need of a quarterback, are starting to create an appealing offense for all possible candidates. Another quick move to the offense might force Aaron Rodgers to make a decision sooner rather than later.
