Steelers to Target Ex Raiders Cornerback in Free Agency in Latest Rumor

The Pittsburgh Steelers will be looking at every opportunity to shore up the roster this offseason.

After an abysmal end to the season that saw a five-game losing streak including a Wild Card loss to the Baltimore Ravens, general manager Omar Khan will look at both the NFL Draft and free agency to improve the team where he can.

Per Steelers insider Nick Farabaugh with Penn Live, Pittsburgh might be targeting former Raiders corner Nate Hobbs to reunite him with Gerald Alexander, the Steelers' new defensive backs coach.

"Sources expect the Steelers to pursue Raiders cornerback Nate Hobbs, a player who new defensive backs coach Gerald Alexander has lots of experience with from his one season in Las Vegas," Farabaugh wrote.

Alexander served as the Raiders' safeties coach last season after two years in Pittsburgh as the assistant defensive backs coach.

In four seasons with the Raiders, Hobbs has posted 281 combined tackles with 200 solo and 14 for loss. He's added eight quarterback hits, three sacks, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and three interceptions.

A reunion between Alexander and Hobbs would bring some much-needed veteran leadership to the Steelers secondary that struggled much of last season.

What's more, Hobbs is only expected to demand around $3 million per season in free agency per Spotrac.com.
