A new batch of set photos from the Vancouver production of HBO’s highly-anticipated The Last of Us Season 2 has surfaced online, featuring Game of Thrones vet Bella Ramsey and Madame Web star Isabela Merced. They are portraying the respective roles of Ellie and Dina in the hit horror drama.
Posted on X, the behind-the-scenes images provide fans with a brand-new look at Ramsey’s Ellie and Merced’s Dina, who, like in the original video game sequel, are also set to become each other’s love interest. They can be seen exploring through city ruins, teasing next season’s new sets and locations. Just like their video game counterpart, the photos confirmed that Ramsey’s Ellie will also be sporting a similar arm tattoo. In a previous interview, Merced revealed that she had instant chemistry with Ramsey from their first day of filming together. She said, "I’m so excited for people to see my chemistry with Bella. Bella and I have so much chemistry. From the first day, it was there. There’s no work to be done."
In addition to The Last of Us Season 2 set photos, series creator and director Neil Druckmann, who’s also best known for creating the original video game series, recently shared a new production update. He confirmed that he has completed directing his episodes for the next installment, while also revealing that the production crew had gifted him a replica of Joel’s watch, which is expected to become an important item in the next season. "My time in Vancouver has come to an end," Druckmann wrote on Instagram. "I’ve had a wonderful time collaborating with some incredibly talented and kind cast and crew. Can’t wait for y’all to see what we’re cooking!"
The Last of Us is written, created, and executive produced by Druckmann and Craig Mazin. Season 2 will also be bringing back main Season 1 cast members Pedro Pascal as Joel, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, and Rutina Wesley as Maria. In the next installment, they will be joined by a number of new faces, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, and Danny Ramirez as Manny, with Catherine O'Hara and Jeffrey Wright. The latter will be reprising his role as Isaac Dixon from Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II game.
The Last of Us Creator Teases Horror Drama’s Future
Before The Last of Us Season 2 began its production, Mazin and Druckmann previously confirmed that they had already mapped out the show’s potential third season. According to Mazin, the show’s story will continue to get bigger as the seasons progress, teasing that they may need a fourth installment to wrap up Joel and Ellie’s story. "We don't think that we're going to be able to tell the story even within two seasons [2 and 3] because we're taking our time and go down interesting pathways which we did a little bit in Season 1 too. We feel like it's almost assuredly going to be the case that — as long as people keep watching, and we can keep making more television — Season 3 will be significantly larger. And indeed, the story may require season 4."
