The first season of «The Last of Us» has already gone down in modern TV history as one of the best video game adaptations — but those who have played The Last of Us Part II know for sure that the biggest challenges for the main characters are still ahead.

The next chapter of Joel and Ellie’s story will be more emotional (and even more traumatic) than viewers unfamiliar with Naughty Dog’s action-adventure could have imagined. According to showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, the second season of the series will not adapt the second game completely, but it will definitely bring (and take away) some key characters.

The latter thesis is, in fact, somewhat confirmed by the title of the first episode — «Future Days».

As noted by Dexerto, «Future Days» — is a song by Pearl Jam that Joel plays on the guitar for Ellie when they settle in Jackson in 2034 after the events of the first game. Gamers know that at the beginning of the second part, the daughter of one of the scientists of the organization «Fireflies» Abby brutally murders Joel, and Ellie spends the rest of the story trying to track her down and take revenge.

In fact, with this title, the creators are giving us a strong hint that Pedro Pascal’s character may leave us from the very first episode: this is consistent with reports that the actor finished work on the second season very early, and contradicts previously published footage showing that he received a lot of screen time and is depicted in various situations.

It can be assumed that in the future Joel will appear exclusively in Ellie’s memories. At least for this one, it seems created a whole separate episode — which, following the example of the story of Bill and Frank, can somewhat dispel the gloom and complexity of the main plot.

As mentioned above, «The Last of Us» — is an adaptation of the post-apocalyptic games of The Last of Us series by Naughty Dog. The first season told the story of smuggler Joel (Pedro Pascal), who is tasked with guiding teenager Ellie (Bella Ramsay) through the US regions devastated by a parasitic fungus pandemic.

The second season will take place five years after the events of the first season and will involve other key characters from The Last of Us Part 2:in particular Abby (Caitlin Deaver), Dean (Isabela Merced), Jesse (Young Masino) and Isaac (his role from thedubbed on television by Jeffrey Wright).
