On Monday night, the Boston Celtics took down the Golden State Warriors in a dominant display of basketball. They earned a 125-85 victory—a margin of 40 points—as the Warriors failed to generate any sort of consistent offense while Stephen Curry was on the bench. Meanwhile, Boston finally found a rhythm shooting the three-ball.
Jayson Tatum finished the night with 22 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists and Curry put up 18 points, three rebounds, and four assists. But the moment that most fans cared about most didn’t take place during the game. It was after when both teams were walking off the court.
And, of course, it involved Steve Kerr.
Jayson Tatum and Steve Kerr interaction is being blown way out of proportion
As Tatum was leaving the court, he had a conversation with Curry. The two superstars were chatting with their hands over their mouths as Jaylen Brown stood to the side, waiting to speak with Curry as well.
But then Kerr entered the frame. He, too, looked like he was waiting, but he was seemingly waiting to speak with Tatum. That time never came.
Tatum’s conversation with Curry lasted a while, so Kerr ended up walking away. And Twitter went wild.
Obviously, Tatum’s time with Team USA was blown into the stratosphere. He was benched for most of the gold-medal run, and Kerr was the head coach, so he took the heat from Celtics Nation.
So, when Kerr ended up walking away from Tatum after the game on Monday night, Celtics Twitter decided to clown the Warriors coach.
But this new discourse is completely ridiculous.
Is it possible that Tatum intentionally ignored Kerr? Sure. Maybe he’s still a bit bitter from the Olympics. But considering everything that came out of Paris stated how professional Tatum was, that doesn’t seem likely.
Is it more possible that Kerr saw Tatum was mid-conversation, walked away, and spoke to him eventually? Absolutely. Later in most videos, Kerr can be seen on the court still, meaning he probably grabbed Tatum for a conversation after he spoke with Curry.
And the Warriors fans who think that Kerr walked away from Tatum out of spite are just as ridiculous.
Tatum should have played during the Olympics. He was fresh off a championship run and is one of the best players in the world, but assuming that Tatum now hates Kerr is a foolish leap to make.
Nothing that Tatum has exuded throughout his entire career scrams “hatred” or “grudge-holder.” Assuming that he intentionally pushed aside Kerr on Monday night is silly.
It’s making a lot out of nothing for no reason at all. People need to move on with their lives.
