Actor and filmmaker Michael B. Jordan is taking a crack at The Thomas Crown Affair. A new remake of the 1968 film is in the works, coming 26 years after the previous reimagining was released in 1999.
Jordan will be in the starring role as a billionaire who has an affinity for art thievery. Russell's role will be as a private detective, and Gurira is reportedly set to play Jordan's confidante. Details haven't been revealed about the characters played by Branagh and Gladstone. Drew Pearce wrote the latest draft of the script after a previous version by Wes Tooke and Justin Britt-Gibson.
The Thomas Crown Affair Gets Rebooted Again
The original version was directed by Norman Jewison with Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway in the leading roles. That film was up for two Academy Awards and won the Oscar for Best Original Song with Michael Legrand's "The Windmills of Your Mind." Director John McTiernan remade the film with the 1999 version starring Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo.
Gurira joining the film will bring her back to the big screen after her rise to great fame on The Walking Dead. She spent many years as a fan-favorite on The Walking Dead with her role as Michonne, which she recently surprised for the spinoff series The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. Gurira was heavily involved with the show's development, as he also co-created and executive produced the spinoff.
Of course, Gurira is also well known for playing Okoye in the MCU. With reports that a third Black Panther movie is in the works, there's a good chance she will reprise that role. In the meantime, fans can see her in her next film, Matchbox, based on the popular racing toys. From Sam Hargrave, the film also stars John Cena and Jessica Biel, and it is set to be released in 2026.
Jordan's The Thomas Crown Affair is dated for a theatrical release on March 5, 2027.
