Titans' Will Levis responds to viral Brian Callahan yelling clip

Television cameras caught Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan using some not-safe-for-work language after quarterback Will Levis committed an awful and avoidable turnover in this past Sunday's 24-17 loss to the New York Jets.

Callahan said after the defeat that Levis made a "dumb" decision, and Levis suggested while speaking with reporters on Wednesday he wasn't bothered by receiving an earful from his coach.

"He told us straight off, he’s not a yeller and screamer, but he can be and there’s certain situations that allow for that, and that definitely was one of those situations," Levis said about Callahan, as shared by Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. "I didn’t bat an eye at it. I took the coaching. I was yelling at myself in my head the same way he was yelling at me."

Levis went viral the previous weekend for what may go down as the worst interception of the season, a turnover that gifted the Chicago Bears with a go-ahead fourth-quarter touchdown in what became a Tennessee loss. The 25-year-old indicated on Wednesday he appreciates having Callahan's support coming off the kind of mistakes that can get a signal-caller benched.

"I know it’s an emotional response that we all have after things like that," Levis added about the Callahan yelling clip from Week 2. "We were right back to it, and he had confidence in me on the next play taking that shot. That was cool to feel, coming back on the field after that turnover, even though we had another one after that. I don’t have any problem with how he handled himself."

According to ESPN stats, Levis began Thursday ranked 28th in the NFL with a 35.7 adjusted QBR and 26th with a 67.3 passer rating. He tossed two touchdown passes with three interceptions over his first two starts.

"Will’s improvement from Week 1 to Week 2, to me, was noticeable," Callahan said on Wednesday, per Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk. "Everything about how he moved in the pocket, where he had his eyes, just everything about playing the position was better in Week 2. I think offensively as a whole, there’s a lot of things that were better from Week 1 to Week 2. We’ve got to get a lot better between Week 2 and Week 3."

One wonders how much longer Callahan will stick with Levis if the offense doesn't "get a lot better" sooner rather than later. As of Thursday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook listed the 0-2 Titans as two-point favorites for this coming Sunday's home game versus the 1-1 Green Bay Packers.
