Tennessee Titans wide receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine was presented with the 2024 Eddie George PFWA Good Guy Award on Thursday afternoon.
It's an honor voted on by local media to recognize one player who is most helpful and available to the media over the course of an entire NFL season. Previous winners in Nashville include safety Kevin Byard and offensive lineman Daniel Brunskill.
Westbrook-Ikhine has always been willing to speak and represented the organization well through the ups and downs of his five-year NFL career. But this season in particular, as he has ascended into one of the team's top performers, he has handled the spotlight superbly.
When NWI first joined the Titans organization as an undrafted free agent out of Indiana in 2020, he was never supposed to be where he is today. Mike Vrabel and Jon Robinson saw his potential on special teams, but even they likely never imagined he would develop into a legitimate receiving threat flirting with double-digit touchdowns.
Every time that Tennessee has given NWI an opportunity, he has taken advantage. When he was being overlooked by the new coaching staff earlier this season in favor of Treylon Burks, he put his head down and kept working until that situation resolved itself.
I really cannot overstate how valuable his presence has been for the Titans over the last few seasons. Not flashy. Not the most athletic. Not the eye-popping numbers we see receivers put up in today's NFL. Just a reliable football player that always knows where to be and is an exemplary teammate.
In a league of Maserati's, there's something charming about a Honda Accord.
When the 2024 regular season wraps up, Westbrook-Ikhine will officially become an undrafted free agent. Given his breakout season, he should have plenty of teams interested in acquiring his services, A big pay day is overdue for the soon-to-be 28-year-old wide receiver and I have to be honest, I'm really holding out hope that he'll get it from the Titans.
As Ran Carthon and Brian Callahan look to establish the culture of Titans and build back into a winning organization, I can't think of anybody who embodies what they are looking for more than NWI. Yes, the Titans need to upgrade their offensive weapons for whoever the new quarterback is going to be. But why can't NWI return as the WR3 or WR4 on the 2025 team?
If it doesn't work out, I'm happy that Westbrook-Ikhine is receiving an award from the media on his way out of town. We have appreciated getting to cover him over the last five years and the consistent demeanor he has maintained through it all.
