Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons is one of the most dominant players in the NFL. But would Parsons have the same success in baseball? Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Tyler Glasnow doesn’t think so.
Glasnow made a recent appearance on “The Chris Rose Rotation” podcast. The 6-foot-8 right-hander was asked to react to a video of Parsons claiming he could hit .200 if he hypothetically played a 162-game season of baseball in the majors.
Glasnow first asked Rose if Parsons had any baseball experience. When Rose confirmed that Parsons had never played baseball at any level, Glasnow’s answer was clear.
“If he had 500 at-bats, five hits. Maybe. Five hits for sure,” said Glasnow. “I think once he steps in and sees like a big-league [pitcher], he’d be like, ‘Oh, never mind.’ I think it’s good to have the confidence. I appreciate the confidence. But five hits, maybe.”
It’s hard to disagree with Glasnow, especially considering how mediocre Parsons looked on the mound when the Cowboys star recently threw out a ceremonial first pitch. Parsons’ skills at the plate probably aren’t much better.
Several MLB players are currently batting below the Mendoza line, including 2020 ALCS MVP Randy Arozarena. The Rays outfielder has a batting average of .179 across 63 games. Could Parsons hit better than Arozarena? Probably not.
If Parsons had dedicated his entire life to baseball, perhaps he could’ve developed into a beefy slugger who hits for power. But as things stand, it’s hard to imagine Parsons hitting for any average that doesn’t start with a zero.
