Former Detroit Lions wide receiver Josh Reynolds is headed back to the open market. Reynolds was released in a flurry of cap-saving moves by the reshuffling Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday.
The veteran receiver had a tough year after leaving the Lions. He signed a two-year deal with the Denver Broncos in free agency this time last year. Reynolds' time in Denver was tough, as he landed on injured reserve with a hand injury and then was wounded to his left arm and the back of his head in a shooting in the city.
The Broncos waived him in early December, and the free-falling Jaguars then claimed Reynolds. Across nine-game appearances between both teams, Reynolds caught only 13 passes for 194 yards and one touchdown.
Reynolds spent three seasons with the Lions, where he was a productive member of a blossoming offense through his connection with quarterback Jared Goff. He had one of the best statistical seasons of his career in 2023 when he caught 40 passes for 608 yards and five touchdowns.
And even though his time with the Lions ended rough, with a pair of drops in the NFC title game, he was a consistent producer and red-zone threat.
Reynolds is an interesting name on the market for a team like Detroit that potentially needs to boost its receiver depth. Tim Patrick and Allen Robinson are pending free agents, and even if those two names return, Reynolds has experience with a lot of the roster, including Goff and new offensive coordinator John Morton.
