Vic Fangio's bold comments sealed former practice squad defender's roster status

The Philadelphia Eagles' preseason win over the Cincinnati Bengals highlighted multiple players on the team. Not much talk was surrounding the defensive tackle position that proved to have the depth to justified Thomas Booker IV being traded to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Vic Fangio bounces back after Broncos, leads Eagles young defense

Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio spoke with the media before practice as he was asked about rookie Ty Robinson and Gabe Hall's performance on the defensive line. Fangio complimented both guys, while singling out Hall for his time on the practice squad last year paying off.

"They both showed pretty good knowledge of what we're asking them to do from an assignment and technique standpoint. They both played hard and I think they're both progressing. I think Gabe has had a nice camp. I think Gabe is, like I said before, a poster child of what practice squad is supposed to be."

A follow up question went deeper into what Hall learned from practice and how he improved. Fangio shared Hall's strengths that has gotten him closer to earning a roster spot.

"I think he just kept getting more confident. Coming off the injury he had in college. He needed some confidence in that regard. He needed to get stronger. Needed to adjust playing playing against men, not college players. It was a great learning experience for him."

Hall might have shown enough to seal his fate on the Eagles' roster

In the Bengals preseason game, Hall finished with three tackles. One of the great aspects of his play was that he performed well against the run as Cincinnati was held to just 57 rushing yards.

He was on the practice all of last season, but now has made quite the impression at training camp. Hall's play was enough for the team to move on from Booker.

Robinson got a sack in the preseason game against Cincinnati and is showing that he is more than a lock on the roster. Hall was a question as to whether he could make the roster with a lack of experience in the regular season.

Fangio might have shown his cards on Hall and now Hall appears to be on step closer to earning his 53-man roster. The Eagles look more solid on the defensive line than expected thanks to Hall.
