Walking Dead universe's Pollyanna McIntosh stars in new Irish comedy Apocalypse Clown

   

Actress Pollyanna McIntosh recently reprised her role as Jadis Stokes in The Walking Dead's newest spinoff, The Ones Who Live. She previously reprised the role in the second spinoff, World Beyond, making her the first actor to have significant roles in three series within TWDU. In June, fans can see McIntosh in another apocalyptic-themed film, this time in an Irish comedy Apocalypse Clown.

The movie is written by the comedy troupe Dead Cat Bounce members Demian Fox, Shane O'Brien, and James Walmsley, with George Kane, who also directs. The troupe and Kane previously collaborated on Discoverdale, a mockumentary that follows cult comedy Rock Band Dead Cat Bounce, who are on a mission to reunite their lead singer, Jim, with David Coverdale of Whitesnake, whom he believes is his father. 

Apocalypse Clown was filmed in Ireland on a modest budget over a three-week period in Dublin, Kildare, and County Wicklow. During Ireland's 2023 Galway Film Fleadh, the movie won Best Irish Film and was soon after released in theaters in September 2023. 

The story follows a washed-up troupe of clowns and a writer for a clickbait publication who travel across Ireland during a mysterious technological blackout. The catastrophe sets the country in a state of anarchy and chaos but that doesn't stop the group from giving one last shot at realizing their dreams. 

The cast of Apocalypse Clown includes David Earl as the depressed clown Bobo, Natalie Palamides as the horror-style clown Funzo, Ivan Kaye as The Great Alphonso, and Fionn Foley as mime artist Pepe. Amy De Bhrún portrays the ambitious writer Jenny, and McIntosh portrays a character named Matriarch. 

The movie, which has an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, will be available on demand beginning June 14. McIntosh shared her excitement about the film on social media, stating it is one of her favorite projects she ever worked on. 

In 2024, McIntosh will appear in the fourth season of the Netflix original series Outer Banks. She will portray a character named Dalia, who is described as a revolutionary-like leader and worldly baddie on a plunder who comes face-to-face with the Pogues.

She also stars in the recently released horror-thriller Double Blind, directed by Irish filmmaker Ian Hunt-Duffy. The movie follows seven volunteers in a drug trail that takes a horrible turn. Double Blind is available on VOD on Prime Video She also reprised her role as Queen Ælfgifu in the second season of Vikings: Valhalla, which streams on Netflix.
