Washington Commanders sign record-breaking UDFA kicker to replace Brandon McManus

The Washington Commanders signed a kicker to  replace Brandon McManus ahead of mandatory OTAs this month. The Commanders quickly replaced McManus following his dismissal from the team Sunday evening.

The Washington Commanders released Brandon McManus

As previously discussed on GH, the Commanders made the decision to cut McManus following a lawsuit over alleged sexual assault:

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Washington Commanders have just released kicker Brandon McManus. His name has made headlines recently and not for reasons the team wants him to do so. Recently, two women have claimed that McManus sexually assaulted them.

Following the allegations surfacing on Memorial Day, the Commanders wrote in a statement they were looking into the matter. During that time, they had ample time to consider free agent kickers.

The Commanders signed Ramiz Ahmed

Per Nicki Jhabvala with the Washington Post, the Commanders signed Ramiz Ahmed Tuesday afternoon. Ahmed has spent time in the NFL with the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers. He has not attempted a field goal in the NFL, but he attempted six kickoffs for the Packers during the 2022 season.

Ahmed, 28, has played for the Pittsburgh Maulers and Birmingham Stallions in the USFL. In 2022, he nailed a 61-yard field goal, breaking the record for the longest field goal kick in the USFL. He played for Nevada in college.
