At the start of training camp, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes indicated he wants Xavier Worthy to hit the ground running. It appears the rookie wide receiver could do just that.

On Sunday, ESPN's Adam Schefter shared a clip of Chiefs practice showing Mahomes scrambling to his left and firing a deep touchdown pass to Worthy.

It's only training camp, but the Chiefs should consider this a great sign. The big play shows Mahomes and Worthy already have some chemistry.

The Chiefs receiving corps flopped last season. Per Pro Football Reference, Kansas City led the league in drops in 2023 (44) and ranked second to last in average target depth (6.2 yards). As a result, two-time MVP Mahomes posted a career-low 63.1 QBR in 16 games.

Kansas City took Worthy with the 28th overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft. Though he missed most of the team's offseason program with a hamstring injury, Mahomes recently told the media, "There's no easing him (into the offense)."

"I definitely feel like there's no time to ease in," Worthy said Wednesday, via Pro Football Talk's Myles Simmons. "It's all go. Once you're here, you're here. So I understand definitely what Pat's saying and just to build that connection with him, it's going to be key here."

Worthy added he picked Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy's brain while dealing with his injury to learn the playbook and strengthen his connection with Mahomes.

If the 21-year-old wideout keeps improving, he should help the Chiefs jump-start their passing attack, which could help them become the first team to win three straight titles in the Super Bowl era.
