The Last of Us, based on the zombie survival video games from Naughty Dog, was one of the biggest hit shows of 2022. A big part of its success came down to the acting from Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, who play Joel and Ellie. The second season will bring in more top-tier talent, including Jeffrey Wright as a paramilitary leader and Schitt's Creek veteran Catherine O'Hara as an as-yet-unnamed characters. We catch a glimpse of her towards the end of an HBO sizzle reel teasing everyhing the network has coming over the next year. Skip to around 1:16 to see her interact with Pascal's Joel:
Maybe she's playing some kind of therapist? In any case, O'Hara is best known for her comedic roles in movies like Best in Show and Beetlejuice. She's on the press trail right now promoting the sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which comes out in theaters next weekend. During an interview with TV journalist Kevin McCarthy, she told a hilarious story about acting opposite Pascal on The Last of Us:
"I was in a scene all day long with Pedro Pascal, who's just the lovliest man, esactly who you'd want him to be. And at one point, I called him Charles. He laughed forever, and then he texted me, 'From Charles.' I don't know where the name came from, but maybe it was this!"
Apparently, O'Hara has to yell the name "Charles" a lot in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. I'm not 100% sure why; there's no character named Charles on the movie's IMDb page, although there was a character named Charles Deetz in the original Beetlejuice movie released back in 1988. In this new movie, his character is dead, so maybe O'Hara's character Delia Deetz is yelling at his ghost or expressing frustration with her late husband or something?
Whatever the reason, that could account for O'Hara's faux pas on the set of The Last of Us. "So embarrassing," O'Hara said. Jenna Ortega, who stars in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice as Delia's grandaughter Astrid Deetz, also chimed in. "He doesn't even look like a Charles."
