Why Top Red Sox Prospect Not Taking Stock In Prestigious Ranking
There’s been a lot of hype around Red Sox prospect Roman Anthony, but he hasn’t bought into it.
Anthony leaped to Triple-A and earned the top spot on Baseball America’s top prospects list last year. The 20-year-old is expected to compete for a spot on Boston’s Opening Day roster.
“I really don’t. I don’t even think it matters, to be honest,” Anthony said Tuesday. “I haven’t done anything in the big leagues yet. I’m just looking forward to getting there and helping this team win.”
Anthony was in Boston for Trevor Story’s offseason camp, Fenway Fest — where he received a hilarious comparison — and Red Sox development camp. He commented on how much he’s learned from big leaguers but also noted that there wasn’t a timeline for him. The outfield prospect admitted he had all the trust in the front office to set him up for success.
The 2022 second-round pick hit three home runs and collected 20 RBIs off a .983 OPS in 35 games with Triple-A Worcester last season. He’ll look to build off his successful 2024 and hope to make an impact on Alex Cora’s side.
