Will Spencer Rattler be inactive again against the Cowboys in Week 2?

Rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler was inactive for the New Orleans Saints in Week 1. Will that be the case again in Week 2?

A little over an hour before the New Orleans Saints’ season opener, fans received a bit of bad news. The bad news was Spencer Rattler being inactive. The rookie quarterback was in a battle with Jake Haener for the backup quarterback position, and Rattler’s inactive status told everyone that Haener won the battle.

Of course, both are still behind Derek Carr, but Haener is the next man up, as everyone saw when he entered the game once New Orleans had a significant lead. Rattler, on the other hand, was inactive, as the emergency third quarterback, meaning he could enter the game if both Carr and Haener are injured.

The reason this was bad news for fans is that some Saints fans have been pushing for Rattler to become the starter, arguing that New Orleans should turn to the future now with the talented rookie. This was before Carr lit up the Carolina Panthers, temporarily silencing critics. Either way, that agenda took a hit with Rattler being QB3.

Now, the question is will Rattler remain QB3, and will he continue to be inactive for the Saints?

Will Spencer Rattler remain inactive for the Saints?

If Rattler remains QB3 for the rest of the season, he will be inactive against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2, and for every other game on New Orleans schedule. The Saints will only have two active quarterbacks per game. However, the team hasn’t been all that transparent with the backup quarterback situation.

It’s unclear if Haener is the cemented backup, or if the two young quarterbacks are battling for the position each week. If they are competing each week to be QB2, then the inactive quarterback will vary based on who wins the competition in a given week. If the coaching staff feels Rattler should be the backup, Haener will be inactive.

Inactives don’t have to be shared until 90 minutes before a game, so that seems like the only time Saints fans will get a clear statement on the backup quarterback position.
