Yankees Could Swing Blockbuster Trade for 2 All-Stars Worth More Than $340 million

The New York Yankees made blockbuster additions of Devin Williams, Max Fried, Cody Bellinger and Paul Goldschmidt this offseason. However, they have a hole in the infield they need to fill after letting Gleyber Torres walk in free agency.

The Yankees could make a blockbuster trade with the St. Louis Cardinals that would land Nolan Arenado and Ryan Helsley in the Bronx. Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter noted the Yankees "could covet" a package deal with both All-Stars if they were to trade for Arenado.

"The Yankees could covet a package deal of Arenado and All-Star closer Ryan Helsley, as slotting him alongside Luke Weaver and newcomer Devin Williams at the back of their bullpen would give them a formidable late-inning trio," wrote Reuter.

Arenado currently has three seasons left on his eight-year, $260 million extension, which he signed in 2019 with the Colorado Rockies. Helsley will be a free agent after the season and Spotrac projects him to earn a six-year, $81 million deal in free agency.

Arenado would answer a clear need for the Yankees. He would take over at third base, allowing Jazz Chisholm Jr. to take over for Torres at second base. However, Helsley would be a luxury for the Yankees in the bullpen. Both Helsley and Williams will be free agents after the year and the Yankees could get a good look at both to decide which one, if either, they want to re-sign.

Arenado is an eight-time All-Star, five-time Silver Slugger, 10-time Gold Glover and six-time Platinum Glover. Helsley is a two-time All-Star and was the Major League Baseball saves leader in 2024. Both could help get the Yankees back to the World Series.
