Dak Prescott missed the mark with this answer.
We are not really sure what to think after the Dallas Cowboys got their doors blown off at home by the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. What we are absolutely not going to do, however, is put any blame on quarterback Dak Prescott.
It is definitely Prescott's fault that the defense allowed 44 points and the Saints to score a touchdown on six straight offensive possessions. He also benched DeMarvion Overshown for most of the game , made Jalen Brooks' slip that caused a back-breaking interception and is the reason why the defense continues to get bludgeoned by pre-snap motion and play action.
Prescott and the offense scored points on their first four possessions and trailed by 19 points. Could they have been more clinical after they crossed midfield? Without a doubt, but that is still unheard of in the NFL.
Prescott played like an MVP candidate before he resorted to hero ball in the fourth quarter. There will be clips from TV shows slandering Prescott that will make Cowboys fans question their life choices. However, the only shred of criticism he deserves is for his deluded postgame quote.
Dak Prescott rubs Cowboys fans the wrong way after Week 2 loss vs. Saints
Prescott seemingly took exception to a reporter who claimed Dallas was "riding a high" after last week's win in Cleveland.
"...As far as riding a high, I know I wasn't personally," said Prescott. "I don't think the guys in the locker room necessarily were. I talked about how much we left on the bone offensively. And that's simply why you can't listen to other people's opinions and read what you guys write, respectfully. You [the media] may have put this team on a high more than we should have been... We're not going undefeated. It hasn't been done in 50 years, Woo surprise..."
In Prescott's defense, he absolutely did not ride a high after Week 1. While didn't pooh-pooh the victory, he recognized the offense left a lot of meat on the bone. Most of the team remained grounded and kept their eye on the bigger picture, but there were some exceptions.
Defensive stars Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs are prime examples. After a dominant defensive performance in Cleveland, Parsons and Diggs both said "Ya'll haven't seen anything yet" in regard to Mike Zimmer's defense. Diggs said there are more than 50 sets in Zimmer's playbook and that Dallas only used three against the Browns. That read like two players who were riding a high.
Diggs took it a step further mid-week in previewing the Saints matchup. When asked what challenges 1,000-yard receiver Chris Olave brings to Dallas' defense, a shocked Diggs asked if it was a trick question. Diggs then said briefly "He's a good player" after he was told it was not, in fact, a trick question.
Diggs and Parsons weren't wrong to be excited about the win last week, just as Prescott wasn't to express frustration after losing by 25 points at home. However, Diggs and Parsons exuded a little too much confidence for fans' liking.
Prescott clearly was not aware of that the team was riding a high, which is why his quote rubbed fans the wrong way. It was an unexpected tact by QB1, but at least he is pissed off.
