The Pittsburgh Steelers are putting together a very active trade-deadline day by making a move to address their defense.
The Steelers acquired edge-rusher Preston Smith from the Green Bay Packers, according to multiple reports. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Steelers are giving up a seventh-round draft pick to land Smith.
This is something of a defensive depth move for Pittsburgh, but a very good one. The 31-year-old Smith has collected eight sacks or more in each of the last three seasons and ends his Packers career with 44 sacks over five-plus seasons. He has 2.5 sacks so far in this campaign.
This marks the second trade the Steelers made on deadline day. They are serious about making a playoff run and winning their first postseason game since the 2016 season.
