Houston quarterback C.J. Stroud struggled mightily last week without Collins or Diggs.
It appears that the Detroit Lions may catch a bit of a break this weekend when they play the Houston Texans.
Houston’s star wide receiver, Nico Collins, again missed practice on Thursday and still remains on injured reserve as he recovers from a hamstring injury. Star defensive end Will Anderson Jr. also reportedly missed practice again but is at least on the active roster.
While they’re absence this late in the week certainly puts their availability for the game on Sunday night in question, Collins in particular seems like a long shot since he hasn’t even been designated to return to practice yet — a 21-day window that teams typically open well before players actually return to game action.
The Texans are already down Stefon Diggs, who suffered a torn ACL two weeks ago, and without Diggs and Collins last week, quarterback C.J. Stroud struggled mightily. The second-year man was limited to just 191 yards — his second-lowest total in a game this season — while completing a season-low 36.7% of his passes against the New York Jets.
It's looking like he'll again have to rely on a receiving corps led by Tank Dell, Robert Woods and Dalton Schultz.
Meanwhile, the Lions will get both Jameson Williams and Brian Branch back this week.
The Lions and Texans are set to kick off at 8:20 p.m. (ET) on "Sunday Night Football."
