The new NFL league year is upon us.
The New Orleans Saints now have a group of players from last year's squad who are able to sign with other teams as free agents. Here's the list.
Saints Free Agents Who Could Be On The Move
- Jamaal Williams, RB, 30 (released)
- Lucas Patrick, LG, 32
- Tanoh Kpassagnon, EDGE, 31 (Void)
- Justin Herron, RT, 30
- Landon Young, RT, 28
- Shane Lemieux, C, 28
- Ugo Amadi, CB, 28
- Adam Prentice, FB, 28
- Oli Udoh, LT, 28
- Shemar Jean-Charles, DB, 27
- Trajan Jeffcoat, EDGE, 26 (SFA)
New Orleans could still bring some of these players back, but we'll have to see how the market plays out. Some could return later on in the free agency process, but others will undoubtedly move on. Tanoh Kpassagnon had void years built into his contract and will now cost the team $1.88 million in dead money.
Other free agents who left the team included Paulson Adebo (Giants), Will Harris (Commanders), Payton Turner (Cowboys) and Marquez Valdes-Scantling (Seahawks). The Saints were able to re-sign Juwan Johnson and Chase Young, as well as bring back Dante Pettis and Nephi Sewell (ERFA). You can track all of the player movement here.
Priority areas the Saints could look to address in the market now that everything is free game include wide receiver, cornerback and left guard. It's important to remember that free agency is ongoing now and that we're in Top-51 mode as far as the salary cap is concerned. New Orleans also hasn't tweaked the contract of Taysom Hill or Cam Jordan, which is a bit interesting. They could get some extra cap space by going to those two players, with Jordan probably being the low-hanging fruit.
