Can we be honest? Once the curtain was drawn on Championship Game weekend, we were experiencing what can only be referred to as mixed emotions. The Kansas City Chiefs were the team we wanted all along. We felt the Philadelphia Eagles were the better team. We never thought they wouldn't beat K.C. in a Super Bowl, but there was also some trepidation.
What if they don't? After all, they should have beaten them the last time.
What if the Birds lose to Andy Reid, Steve Spagnuolo, AND Carson Wentz? We may not be able to get out of bed on Monday.
We aren't sure when the transition occurred, but gameday finally arrived, and a thought went through our minds. 'We're going to blow these cocky sons of guns out'.
There isn't a Birds fan in the Delaware valley or anywhere else on Planet Earth who is unaware of how things transpired on football's grandest stage at Super Bowl LIX.
Philly is now a two-time Super Bowl champion, but now, the process begins again. It's time to build another winner. Legal tampering begins on March 10. The new league year begins two days later at 4 p.m. EST.
The free-agency frenzy is the next stop on the NFL calendar.
Zack Baun's recently-announced extension means Josh Sweat and Milton Williams may leave. Then, there's the Brandon Graham angle. He hasn't announced it yet, but chances are high that he might retire.
Philly is in a good spot moving forward at EDGE with Nolan Smith and Jalyx Hunt. Bryce Huff is a question mark though. We can argue a pass rusher is the team's biggest need.
Philly is expected to be quiet in free agency, seeing they don't have much money to spend, but there will be opportunities to add talent at bargain prices. Here are a handful of edge rushers who may pique their interest.
Josh Uche has notched 20.5 sacks and 34 QB hits in 64 games and has done so having only made four starts. The question is this. Can he ever be the guy again who notched 11.5 sacks during 15 games in 2022?
Darrell Taylor seems like he's been around for a while. but he's only 27. He's notched 24.5 sacks and 43 QB hits in 65 games. He's been one of the more consistent guys on this list despite never being a consistent full-time starter.
His best season was 2022 (9.5 sacks, four forced fumbles). He spent last season in Chicago with the Bears. 31 hurries and three sacks were the result. He could be a nice diamond in the rough.
K’Lavon Chaisson is a former first-round pick who's talent was wasted with the Jacksonville Jaguars for four years. Last year, he had his best season, a five-sack, 32-tackle campaign with the Raiders.
Las Vegas awarded Maxx Crosby a very generous extension whicj
You know how much we hate adding former Dallas Cowboys to the Eagles' roster. Maybe we were scarred after DeMarco Murray and Orlando Scandrick. Truth be told though, we wouldn't be opposed to seeing Philly add Micah Parsons.
That will never happen though.
Chauncey Golston is a less expensive option who seems to be among the impending free agents the Cowboys want to bring back. If they don't, Philly could be intrigued by what he did (5.5 sacks and 31 pressures) during a contract year.
Derek Barnett never lived up to the first-round draft capital that Philly invested in him. That is unless you mention a game-ending sack during his second season vs. Andrew Luck and being in the right place at the right time to recover Brandon Graham's strip-sack in Super Bowl LII when he was till a rookie.
No, wait. Derek did have a nice strip-sack of his own. Think two weeks prior during the NFC Championship Game vs. the Minnesota Vikings.
That stopped a Vikes drive while the game was still competitive. Unfortunately, those moments never came often enough.
So, Barnett left. For whatever reason, he just looked better in Houston with the Texans, but now, he enters free agency.
There's no way Howie Roseman does this again, right? No, for real... This is a horrible idea, isn't it? Why is it then that we can't stop thinking this?
If Philly gets the guy we saw in Houston rather than the undisciplined guy Barnett was in Philly, we wouldn't be opposed to this. It would be nice to land the guy that notched 45 tackles, 7.5 sacks, and 18 QB hits we saw during 22 regular-season games with the steadliy-improving Texans.
At the time of this story's release, the Arizona Cardinals seem interested in re-signing Baron Browning. If they don't, we'll be interested to see where he lands.
He's never been able to put it all together as they say, but in the right situation with the right coaches (Philly), he could really blossom and do some nice things.
Charles Omenihu's recent past has been peppered by trips to the injured reserve and a suspension for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. He's one of those guys that may talk too much on social media too.
He and the next guy on this list would be the last two guys we added of everyone mentioned, but we'd be willing to let them compete for a job.
Here's as honest as we can be. Though we know Haason Reddick can be a handful, he has always been nice to us on our platform.
Everything we saw from him last year was a bit much for our liking, but maybe that's humbled him. Depending on the day, we might welcome a reunion, but we'd recommend preceding with caution.
