Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry has spoken out about the devastating wildfires sweeping through California, offering words of support for those affected.
In a heartfelt post on his Instagram Stories, Curry expressed his prayers for the victims and gratitude to the firefighters and first responders working tirelessly to control the blazes.
“Praying for all affected by the fires in Southern California right now… and a huge thank you to our firefighters, first responders, and all who are at the front lines. God bless,” Curry shared.
The wildfires have wreaked havoc across the state, forcing thousands of residents to evacuate. Over 70,000 people have been displaced, and at least five lives have been lost. The air quality in affected regions has deteriorated significantly, with smoke and ash blanketing communities.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr also weighed in recently about the wildfires, revealing that his 90-year-old mother also had to evacuate.
“It’s heartbreaking to see the devastation caused by these fires,” Kerr said, according to NBC Sports.
Despite the emotional toll of the wildfires, the Warriors took the court in Indianapolis on Friday night, where they faced additional challenges.
Playing without Curry, Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins and Jonathan Kuminga, the team was handed a 108-96 loss by the Indiana Pacers.
Leaning on bench players like Pat Spencer, who delivered a career-high 17 points, the Warriors fought valiantly but struggled to keep up with the Pacers.
The team shot just 41.3% from the field, including 10-for-38 from beyond the arc, falling short against Indiana’s efficient offense, per NBA.
As California grapples with this crisis, messages of support like that from Steph Curry and others serve as a reminder of the importance of community and compassion during trying times.
