Washington Commanders Take 3-Word Shot at Detroit Lions After Upset Win

The Washington Commanders shocked the world when they pulled off an upset 45-31 victory over the Detroit Lions in their divisional round matchup on Saturday night. And as if that wasn't bad enough, the Commanders took a three-word shot at their defeated opponent on Sunday after their big win.

Washington Commanders Take 3-Word Shot at Detroit Lions After Upset Win

After beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 23-20 thanks to a last-second field goal from Zane Gonzalez in the wild card round, the Commanders entered their bout with the Lions as heavy underdogs. And despite that, they throttled Detroit to the tune of a resounding victory that booked them a spot in the NFC championship game.

This was a huge win for Washington, as it is the first time they have advanced to the NFC Championship Game since 1991. And they made sure to rub it in on the Lions after securing this win, as they posted a savage message on social media, shouting out rookie cornerback Mike Sainristil in the process.

"The lion tamer," Washington said about Sainristil in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Sainristil played a big role in helping the Commanders pick up this victory. The rookie cornerback intercepted Lions quarterback Jared Goff twice, while also picking up five tackles and two passes defended along the way. Add in another pair of interceptions, and a fumble recovery, and Washington's defense forced five turnovers in this one.

Jayden Daniels has generated quite a bit of hype in his first season with the Commanders, but Sainristil also appears to be a budding star in his own right. And now, he will have a shot to help Washington advance to the Super Bowl when they play in the NFC championship game.

While the Commanders are sitting back and laughing now, they will begin preparing for the NFC championship game as soon as a winner is crowned in the Philadelphia Eagles-Los Angeles Rams divisional round battle.
