Yolanda Hadid jokingly calls herself 'worst mom ever' in response to a viral TikTok accusing her of 'starving' supermodel daughters Gigi and Bella

Yolanda Hadid shot back at the viral social media criticism around the way she raised her supermodel daughters Gigi and Bella.

Recently Yolanda, 58, faced blowback after a user on TikTok made a compilation of old Real Housewives of Beverly Hills clips and accused her of 'starving' her daughters when they began modeling. 

In one of the resurfaced clip Gigi, 27, complained that she felt 'weak' after eating half an almond and Yolanda advising her to eat 'a couple almonds.' However, the reality TV star has taken the outrage in her stride, posting a humorous TikTok video of herself eating almonds captioned: '#worstmomever #almonds'.

Her video showed her munching on the nuts while engaging in various day-to-day activities like sitting by the fire and smelling flowers.

The Dutch former model, who has a farm in Pennsylvania, also had herself filmed eating almonds while enjoying the routines of country life.

 

She nibbled on the nuts while visiting her horses, and could even be seen feeding some of her livestock from her almond bowl.

 

Yolanda's defiant TikTok stance came on the heels of a storm of denunciations on social media over the way she told Gigi in particular to keep the weight off. 

Gigi embarked on her modeling career during her mother's reality TV years, meaning the cameras picked up on Yolanda's particular style of parenting.

A number of compilation clips have done the rounds online over the years in which Yolanda instructs Gigi to restrict her caloric intake.

 

One particular compilation video, which was posted to YouTube three years ago, has managed to rack up a whopping seven million views. 

In one of the clips in that video, Yolanda intimated that Gigi should give up her volleyball hobby because it might make her physique too masculine.

Yolanda vamped that modeling demands a 'feminine' figure, that volleyball players 'eat like men' and that she suspected her sporty daughter 'was a lesbian.'

Another clip showed Gigi expressing her excitement for eating 'heart attack' food - and Yolanda responding by telling her that she could 'have one night of being bad.'

 

Gigi's mother reminded her that she had 'to get back on her diet' afterwards 'because you know in Paris and Milan they like the girls just a tad on the skinny side.'

Yet another clip showed Yolanda confessing to Gigi: 'It's hard to exercise six days a week and it's hard to not eat any sugar and it's hard to have to eat salad everyday....'

One of the most famous clips shows Yolanda assiduously limiting the size of the piece that Gigi can eat of her own birthday cake.

 

However the footage that has become the most notorious is when Gigi called Yolanda saying: 'I'm feeling really weak - I had like half an almond,' and Yolanda replied: 'Have a couple almonds, chew them really well.'

Meanwhile Bella, who followed her elder sister into modeling, recently said she suffered from 'eating disorders' when she was growing up. 

'Growing up, I thought it was normal that I had this chronic anxiety and this disassociation, crying every day and not knowing who I was,' she told i-D.

'Whether it was eating disorders or smoking a pack of Marlboros since the age of 14, I’m like: "Oh, this is what all of the kids are doing." I realized that maybe that was me trying to figure out why I felt that way. And in reality, all I needed was therapy.'

 

Bella shared that as a rising model she continued to suffer from body dysmorphia, which affected the way she reacted to her fame.

'During that part of my life, I was so out of body, disassociating so much... I was so confused by what people saw of me,' she said. 

'I still, even now, see comments on Instagram when I’m sitting on the couch and am like: "Are they talking about me?" I don’t understand how I’ve gotten to this point where people either appreciate my work or know who I am.'

She told Vogue this year that as a teenager she suffered from anorexia, which she attributed partly to the Adderall she was prescribed for what was thought was ADHD.

 

The interview drew a storm of controversy when Bella revealed that she had a nose job when she was just 14 years old.

Social media erupted with anger at Yolanda for providing her daughter with cosmetic surgery at such a tender age.

Bella herself expressed regret about the procedure, saying: 'I wish I had kept the nose of my ancestors. I think I would have grown into it.'

Yolanda hails from the Netherlands, while Gigi and Bella's father Mohamed Hadid is a Palestinian who was born in Nazareth just months after the foundation of Israel.
